Illustrated lecture on Christmas traditions by Katrina Siliprandi, Town Close Auditorium, Norwich Castle, 2.30pm. Katrina Siliprandi is going to tell us about the origins of many of our Christmas customs beginning with the origins of Christmas as we know it today, and discussing how Christmas changed over the years, particularly in Victorian times, with the advent of the Christmas card and Christmas trees.

Wednesday 18th January 2012. The Materials and Techniques of John Sell Cotman and John Crome.
Illustrated lecture by Rose Miller. Town Close Auditorium, Norwich Castle. 2.30pm.
John Sell Cotman and John Crome were painting before the period when artists' materials were generally available. Rose Miller has been researching their materials and techniques. This is a wonderful opportunity to find out about some of the most recent research on the work of these famous Norwich School artists.

Wednesday February 15th 2012. W.J.J.Bolding and his Norwich Connections.

W.J.J.Bolding was one of those larger than life characters who seemed to take an interest in everything and everybody. He is best known as a photographer and landowner, but his many interests brought him into contact with Norwich School artists such as John Middleton and J.B.Ladbroke. See Richard Jefferson's article in the Newsletter (Autumn 2011) and then come along to the lecture.

Wednesday 21st March 2012. The Restoration of Holkham Kitchen Garden Seen Through the Eyes of an Artist.
Illustrated lecture by Sandra Rowney. Town Close Auditorium, Norwich Castle, 2.30pm.
Sponsored by the Jane Thistlethwaite Arts Travel Bursary, Sandra Rowney has been visiting Holkham for a year, recording the changes in the restoration of the kitchen garden through paintings, photographs and other media. The FNM will be organising a visit to Holkham later in the year.

Our Speaker will be Dr Tim Pestell, Curator of Archaeology, who will speak on the theme of 'Collecting Cultures' and update us on the latest archaeological acquisitions. Some objects will be on display.
Members only. Tea and cakes will be available in the Rotunda from 4pm. The Rotunda will be open for an extra half hour so that members can enjoy their tea & cake without feeling rushed. Tickets £5. Tickets must be booked please.
